  1. Fix bug that stops Accessible Word docs creating inaccessible PDFs when exported

If an accessible Word document is exported to PDF the resulting PDF won't allow reflow on any page that contains an image. Image-free pages will reflow in Adobe Reader allowing visually impaired readers to read at a high magnification, but pages containing images simply spill off the screen, condemning the VI reader to significant left-right scrolling.

  2. Fix Word Native PDF Generator Limitations - PDF/UA

PDFs output with the “Document structure tags for accessibility” and “PDF/A compliant” options checked facilitate the production of accessible PDFs, however the resulting PDF does not comply with the newer PDF/UA standard (ISO 14289-1:2014).

We found the following limitations that prevented Word 2019 (on Windows) from achieving PDF/UA compliance.

    [Bounding Boxes]
Images that are inserted into Microsoft Word documents are not output with bounding boxes. Each "Figure" structure element should have a bounding box.

    [Table Header scope not set]
Table header cells render as TH elements in the PDF structure tree, which is semantically correct. However, they are missing a…

  3. Fix Word Accessibility Checker Heading Level Bug

When a document is missing a top level heading (Heading 1) yet contains other heading levels, the accessibility checker does not detect skipped heading levels. It will only properly detect skipped heading levels when a top level heading is present somewhere in the document.

    To reproduce the issue:
    1. Create a test document and add test content.
    2. Insert a Heading 3 near the top of the document.
    3. Insert a Heading 2 near the bottom of the document.
    4. Use the Accessibility Checker: File | Info | Check for Issues | Check Accessibility
    5. The Accessibility Checker will wrongly…

  4. Severe eye problems with TOO PALE Word Doc Display

    Dear MS Team,

I am using Office 2019 and have SEVERE EYE PROBLEMS with detecting any icon on the OPTION BAND of a Word Doc because they are TOO FEEBLY represented (light grey instead of black), they are TOO PALE, especially after working for more than 8-11 hours/day when everything culminates into something blurred, which can only be guessed, e.g., the indentation keys on the ruler are almost NON VISIBLE, the same as anything else on a Word Doc.

    FURTHERMORE: Is it possible to
    - (a) add some additional “L-Ctrl+options” for TEXT COLOUR OPTIONS for a fast change of text-colour…

  7. Word Save dialogue keyboard controls missing

In Word for Mac (16.41) the opportunity to select any other option than Save (e.g. Discard) has been removed. This may be due to my language version (Finnish), or not, but it used to work, doesn't anymore. Makes keyboard use impossible.

  8. Please make the whole of Word Accessible

I am completely blind and use JAWS and Narrator. Please make the multi-level list dialogue accessible. Right now, crucial parts of this dialogue are not able to be used either by Narrator or JAWS, in either Word 2019 or 2016. I can't navigate the list library because it's sset out in a grid whose rows horizontally wrap so that I can't tell where I am inside the grid. secondly, I can't use the 'include from level' feature when defining my own lists because you've made it a combo box which a screen reader cannot access. An edit spin box would…

  10. Visual stress - more suitable highlighting colours

I am a dyslexia assessor whom covers visual stress and the impact of that upon effective working. Word is a useful tool when individuals with dyslexia are made aware of the benefits. Highlighting key parts can be really important for those certain individuals as it emphasizes the need for repetition. Most people with dyslexia also suffer with visual stress and have a preferred colour which helps them read at ease. It amazed me to see the poor selection of colours available for individuals to use. i think that these should be more appropriate for those with visual stress, these are…

  13. Switch Rows and Columns for Insert Table Menu

In Word, under Insert -> Table, a table with three rows and two columns is listed as a "2x3 Table," but the standard for matrices (math) is to list rows and then columns (3x2 Table) , and I think it should be the same for tables in Word.

  14. Why is the Style Gallery missing from Word in Office 365 for the web? This greatly REDUCES the possibility of creating accessible documents.

Heading styles are key to accessible documents and are used to provide a navigable structure used by screenreaders and to create TOCs, Bookmarks when exported to Pdf, etc. However the style gallery is missing so documents will be created without heading styles and thus will be inaccessible. You can only apply heading styles if have prior knowledge of them and know the shortcuts. Schoolkids learning to use Word will be learning to create inaccessible documents. This is a massive step BACKWARDS for inclusion and accessibility. Also makes teaching staff/students to create accessible documents significantly more difficult. It makes the MIcrosoft…

  15. Highlighting Colours

Hello, I am a frequent user of Microsoft word and have recently realized that your selection of highlighting colours is quite limited. I am suggesting you should included a wider variety of colours such as an orange or even some pastel variety similar to what are available on Microsoft one note. being a student i am often having to highlight documents and am constantly limited with my selection of highlighting colours as you do not provide a simple colour such as orange. I think this would be an easy addition to your program and would assist many students like myself…

  16. Bright red Standard Text Color has poor color contrast ratio

In the Font section of MS Office is a Text Color dropdown with a row of “Standard Colors”. People often want some bright red text to highlight their words, and they usually choose the second-to-the left red color (RGB: 255:0:0). There is also the option of the left-most red (RGB: 192:0:0), but it’s too dull for a highlight, so people don’t use it. Unfortunately, the “255” red color only has a color contrast ratio of 4.0:1, which is below the WCAG 2.0 required ratio of 4.5:1. Could you change the “255” color in this row of “Standard Colors” to a…

Okay, maybe not, strictly speaking, accessibility, but nowhere else on the MS website is there access to a suggestion box. Get this: The threads in the Community about this all end up with an error message. What are you trying to tell us?
I've used Word for, oh 25 years? The latest version has dropped certain time saving steps in favor of, well, keeping my mouse busy. How doth thou annoy us. Wouldn't a services company want to know how to better serve? I'm a doctor and I send out feedback forms real time. Please pass this up the chain…

  18. Work with MS to offer my Assistive Technology hardware and software

I have developed, since 1983, hardware and software to make PC's/Windows accessible to people with even the slightest control, to completely control their computer. I wish to get in touch with someone at MS that can help to allow me to offer my products in MS Store and online.

  20. Get accessibility checker to warn about links that don't have descriptive text

It would be great if the accessibility checker warned about links that have been inserted as the URL address (https://blah.com/etc/etc/etc.com) instead of being replaced by descriptive text.
