  1. Support captions / subtitles in MP4 & MKV files.

Windows 10 Movies & TV supports SRT files. This is nice, but it's not really enough.
I know there's no end of anime folks asking for subtitle support in MKV files, so you can ask them what formats are prevalent there.
In the MP4 container, there's space for multiple "sbtl:tx3g" streams (aka "mov_text") to carry subtitles / captions, either to provide access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or to support multiple languages. You already support multiple audio streams, you already support subtitles in external SRT files, subtitles in alternate streams should be a small addition to…

      • Is there a way to connect my hearing aids to my Xbox one?

Can you make an adapter to work with my Xbox one controller/device and my Bluetooth capable hearings aids? A 1.5mm to Bluetooth transmitter in the headphone jack would work, no?

        • Accessibility Features for Publisher

I am working in Publisher 2010 (Part of MS Office Professional Plus 2010) and I am looking for resources on creating accessible content. I noticed that there is no accessibility checker. Also, even when I used defined parts like "Headings" and then export to a PDF, those tags are not preserved. I was considering upgrading to the new publisher but I don't see any signs that that has those features either. I am very well versed in using the accessibility features and creating accessible content from Word and PPT, so I was expecting the same functionality in Publisher.

          It seems…

          • Automatically pause Narrator while Cortana is listening.

Unlike Siri and VoiceOver on Apple products, Cortana and Narrator are not integrated. Blind and low vision users expect the screen reader to pause whenever a personal assistant is listening for commands.

One third-party developer, Freedom Scientific attempts to remedy this by ducking the audio from it's screen reader (JAWS) whenever Cortana is invoked. However, this method isn't always effective at preventing Cortana from detecting feedback from JAWS.

Is it possible to provide such functionality in Narrator?

Aged near blind must have access to this terrific app. Must they buy an iPhone and scrap their Android device only to find out next day that Seeing AI is now available for Android devices. PLEASE - just let us know WHEN so that we can make intelligent decisions. Surely Microsoft can do better than "We're working on it". Thanks MUCH.

              • Windows Speech Recognition (SAPI) does not shut down properly on Windows 10. I suggest you fix this bug :)

                How to replicate said issue:

I have placed a shortcut for starting Windows Speech Recognition on my Desktop.

Shortcut copied from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessibility\Windows Speech Recognition

                - Click the shortcut to start Windows Speech Recognition
                - Open Start
                - Close Start
                - Close Windows Speech Recognition
                - Click the shortcut to Windows Speech Recognition

Windows Speech Recognition won’t open. Looking at Task Manager you’ll see Speech Recognition still running.

If you open Start, you’ll see Speech Recognition disappearing from Task Manager and you are able to open Windows Speech Recognition again.

This odd bug is somehow tied to the Start menu.

                • GroupMe

                  Hi,

I know that GroupMe is part of the Skype Family, but can you add it to this list for Microsoft feedback accessibility? This would help me to send it directly to developers about accessibility issues like bugs.

I gave some feedback regarding accessibility issues to developers on App Store (under Review), but hasn't fixed the issues for a while.

                  Thank you,
                  Otto

                  • Dictionary feature for Narrator

The narrator doesn't support customizing pronunciation feature for specific words. For instance, if narrator pronounces some words incorrectly, Narrator can change the pronunciation in dictionary setting like JAWS and NVDA.

                    • Add the ability to reset Narrator settings to factory defaults.

Please add an option to reset all Narrator settings to the default values. This could be helpful in many different situations, especially when troubleshooting problems or if someone wants to undo a bunch of changes and start from scratch.

                      • Natural sounding voices

If you could have more natural sounding voices for ease of access options. I am a college student, and I have difficulties with learning if I cant hear it and read it and see it, I struggle. When the voices sound synthesized and computerized, I can't focus at all i can only focus on the voice and how irritating it sounds not to be rude at all. But it is almost like nails on a chalkboard and affects me worse than not having the read-aloud option.

                        • add support for changing the pronunciation of the screen reader

A great deal of screen reader users want to change the pronunciation of certain words to specific applications and synthesizers. You should do this for the windows narrator.

I am blind need to collaborate on documents with other Office 365 users.
When I share a document with another person who makes changes, I can’t see the changes. Sighted people can see the changes that the person makes. I would like Microsoft to expose the changes to Screen readers or make them accessible out of the box.

I have extremely low vision (nearly 0% central vision). However, I have been working on a PC just by personalizing the Windows' theme and appearances (changing the font sizes and colors of desktop, menu, selected items, taskbar, Active window Title bar etc), i.e., without using any of the so called "Accessibility" features. I don't need the special "High Contrast" (Inverted Colors) theme meant for people like me. One of the many reasons for this being its incompatibility with many application softwares. Personalizing all the appearances and theme had been quite simple in Windows '98 up to Windows XP. However, it…

I suggest you to introduce a new special windows theme for people with low vision who do not require inverted colors or high contrast. All they need is larger font sizes and white text on black background. It was very easy to change all the appearances in Windows XP and older versions. However, in newer versions like windows 7, 10 etc. , the blind user has to depend on others to change the appearances in order to begin using the computer. therefore, it would be highly beneficial if an accessibility button is introduced on the desktop so that a user…

                                • Changing braille display drivers needs to be more intuitive, if needed at all to start with.

When I tried adding my Freedomscientific braille display to be used with Narrator, I followed the directions in Narrator's user guide chapter 7:

                                  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4004263/windows-10-narrator-using-with-braille

In this article, after updating the driver through Device Manager, it states in step 7:

Choose the driver that begins with LibUSB-Win32 from the list on the following page and select Next to install the driver.

I don't see a "next page" to be able to select this. After doing all steps up to step 7, I'm then returned to my device manager, and placed back under the Freedomscientific USB node which still is expanded with…

                                  • Add keyboard shortcuts for the Snipping Tool

The Snipping Tool is horribly inconvenient for anyone who does a lot of screen capture/paste (not PrintScreen) because it has no keyboard shortcuts. Lots of hand-eye coordination and mouse clicks required just to initiate a snip. Please bring back keyboard shortcuts.

                                    • Add a command or toggle to disable Narrator speech and sounds.

There needs to be a way to disable Narrator speech and/or sounds. This is especially true now that we have braille support. Currently, I have to mute the entire system to have a silent braille experience.

                                        Hi Chris,

We do have a hot key to turn on and off Narrator. If you use the Windows Key and Enter, that should turn on and off Narrator.

One clarifying question that I have though is are you using Narrator with the braille device, or are you using the device separately?

                                        Thank you,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

                                          Hello Matt,

Thank you for contacting us about your suggestion. In a way that makes sense to have a screen curtain for your Android device like the one that is found in Apple products.

I’ve submitted your feature request to one of our Product Managers for further review. we’ll post updates here as soon as further details become available.

In the meantime, one thing you can do is dim your screen all the way down as that would make it harder for others to read – especially at an angle.

Again, thank you for contacting us about this, and we will endeavor to resolve all issues that are raised.

                                          Sincerely,

                                          The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk.

Accessibility feature Mouse Keys does not work in Edge (and UWP apps with edge html engine). There is no reaction on click (5 key on numpad) or double click (+ key on numpad) in page area. Browser toolbars are only clickable with mouse keys area of the browser.
