  1. The button option in the creators update for narrator is missing from the on-screen gestures list.

Can you please fix the new button option for narrator and the creators build. It is currently missing from the Touch screen gestures list in narrator.

        Hi Neil,

Thank you for reaching out to us about your suggestion. In order to help you out further, what operating system and application are you wanting to use the math OCR capability with? Is this to be used with any adaptive technologies like Narrator, Jaws, dolphin, etc.? This would help me do some additional research for you and get this suggestion in front of the right engineering team.

Again, thank you for contacting us; and if we can be of help in the future, please don’t hesitate to post again.

        Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

      • Windows 10 advanced startup options completely unusable if you use screen reader. This means you cannot boot in to the new accessible winre

There could be times when you want to boot in to winre even when windows starts normally. Maybe you have virus or something you can't uninstall. You have a clean backup of your system and to restore it you need to get in to winre. It seems there is no way of doing this if you use a screen reader because you have to go through the advanced startup options screen and it is totally unusable to people who use screen readers. Can we have some method of rebooting to winre that is accessible with a screen reader.

            • Move focus from the message list to the message body after selecting a message within Outlook for Android

Currently when selecting a message from the Focused Inbox within Outlook for Android version 2.1.116, focus remains on the item in the list when using the app with the BrailleNote Touch. While the Touch does have a touchscreen and supports gestures, the primary navigation paradigm with the Touch is linearly using keyboard commands. When a message is activated from the list, focus should move to the message body. Currently users have to scroll/swipe past all of the messages in the list in order to locate the contents of the message they opened.

                Hello,

Thank you for contacting us about the issue you’re having. Can you tell us is if you’ve been able to change the focus to the message body without the BrailleNote Touch?

Thank you for contacting us. We look forward to solving your issues and answering your questions.

                Sincerely,

              • Make the language setting that is used to spellcheck documents also tell screen readers in which language to pronounce the text.

In HTML, you can add "lang" attributes to pages and to individual chunks of text. This, among other things, tells screen readers in which language they should pronounce the words (as long as the user has the appropriate voice profiles installed).

In Microsoft products such as PowerPoint, however, screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, Window Eyes) read the content in English no matter the language you set words to via the language settings. This makes it very difficult to use Microsoft documents to accompany language classes--where we switch between the target language and the native language often, to include adopted phrases such…

                • Improve names of options in Word (eg themes, page number options etc)

In Word 2016, many features have non-descriptive options. For insance, when you choose page numbers then top or bottom of screen, the first few options are "Plain number 1", "Plain number 2", "Plain number 3" etc. Without looking at the image (which not all users can do), there is no way to tell that the third one is actually right aligned. Using a screen reader there is also no way to tell which ones are "Page X", and which are "Page X of Y" etc. It's also very hard to get any idea what the different header and footer styles…

                    • set names and colors on edge tabs, for accessibility and productivity.

Double click a edge tab and set a name and color, it would make it easier to tell what tab is what you need and help both disabled and enabled to do more.

                        • Edit support pages for good accessibility behaviour

                          Hello,

having searched & read to page 5 I can't see this comment. I hope it's not pedantic?

I am heartened to see a more cohesive and fuller set of accessibility support pages by MSoft (Sept. 2017) however,,,

Descriptive links are not used on this 2016 page but should be (example: "here" used multiple times):

This is concept explained on a separate page:

The WAT toolbar by Paciello group is on GitHub but no longer updated; the key features needed: Color Contrast Analyzer and structure tools such as the tab indicator, display of tab order, display of headings.

                            • put an option to select and copy text from the web using narrator

other screen readers give you the option to select and copy text while you're browsing on a webpage. i think narrator should also include this featuree so that it becomes a fully featured screen reader.

                              • Improve the way Word files open with Voiceover

When I open an existing Word file, the Voiceover cursor is on the document layout area. To get to the text, I need to interact, then interact again, before Voiceover says “in edit text”.

And if the document has headers, I need to interact, which takes me to the header area, then move down to the text, then interact again.

Would it be possible, when opening a file, to start with the Voiceover cursor on the text area? This is probably where most users want to be when they open a file – ready to start reading or typing.

                                I…

In fear of being a bit harsh, though I don't mean to be at all, I must say... the keyboard shortcut keys for using Narrator in Windows 10 1703 Creaters Edition are an absolute mess! I looked at the commands list with capslock+F1, and was lost almost immediately.

It appears that there are no logical mkneumonics for remembering any of the keystrokes. They seem quite random with no explanation of how Microsoft determined that these would be the appropriate keys to use.

I understand that one may create their own shortcuts, or remap the ones already there, but that's not…

                                  • Add the ability to select a sound output device for Narrator

I would like the ability to send Narrator audio to a different sound device. For example, I could keep all my system audio coming through my laptop internal speakers but send Narrator speech and sounds to a USB headset or vice versa. In Narrator settings, there would be a screen that lists all the detected sound output devices. Selecting one of them would immediately cause Narrator to switch from the default Windows audio output device to the selected device.

                                    • Make Windows10 free for everyone. Keep it simple. Am disabled, got talked out of the Free download.

I have an energy deficit disorder. About to give up on the complexity and jargon of Windows and go to Linux if I cant get Windows10 free. It will not download when I tick assistive technologies box. Also I cant get into my microsoft account here and get sent round in circles. I feel like sending a snailmail as this is all so stupidly difficult.

                                      • Make the "Microsoft Virtual Academy" more friendly to screen reader users

Currently trying to take the virtual academy course in PowerShell. Tried IE, FireFox, Edge and Chrome; Chrome works the best. Tried NVDA, Narrator and JAWS; JAWS works the best. The control-semicolon keystroke does bring up an accessible view of the slide presentation. But after the first video for the first lesson is done playing (around an hour) there is no play button. I've toggled autoplay on and off, and have gone through the slides and the table of contents. I've pressed ENTER on different items in the contents; nothing plays. I guess the play button is some inaccessible graphic an/or…

                                        • Accessible Microsoft Modern Keyboard

Being visually impaired, I struggle to see the text on a normal keyboard. The new Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID looks like a good keyboard, but would your product team consider making an accessible version of it? A "Microsoft Modern Accessible Keyboard with Fingerprint ID" featuring larger keyboard text size would definitely be something I would consider buying. A black finish version with the larger text size (in white) on black keys would also provide a more contrasting colour version as well, making finding keys easier for those with visual impairments.
