Help us make accessible PDFs from Office for Mac

Office for Windows not only has an accessibility checker, but creates tagged PDF files.

Please include this capability on the Mac version.

It's crazy that this gap still exists, making it impossible for someone who only owns a Mac to create an accessible PDF directly from Office.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft with your idea.

I am happy to say that this feature is now available in Word 2016 for the MAC in builds 15.23.1 and greater. The currently release does not support any Far East languages or any languaages that are Right to Left. However, this is planned to be addressed in the next few updates.

    Thank you
    Tim

After downloading Office for Mac, I tested if Word is able to export tagged PDF. Curiously in the dialog there was a note that it exports as tagged PDF – and it did so perfectly. After trying again the note was gone. Maybe something is underway. Sadly I didn't manage to bring the dialog back

I agree, this should be a high priority with all new versions, accessibility is key to having a properly inclusive society. As a side benefit, all the markup will improve searching.

As a Mac user and accessibility consultant who works with large companies, this capability is a must have. It's ridiculous that the accessibility options I recommend to customers aren't available on my own device. How does Open Office include these features but your COTS product not? Please fix this and add the options - it may make your own testing and documentation easier to manage of Office for Mac more closely aligns with Office for Windows in critical features like this. And for what it's worth, the proposed ICT refresh (I.e., Section 508 /
504 refresh) has authoring tool recommendations for this type of thing. Thanks in advance for listening!

I support this request. We need accessible content for everyone adding this function will help us achieve that purpose.
