Add hotkeys in Skype 8 and newer Add hotkeys in Skype 8 and newer
Since Microsoft will prevent Skype 7 from accessing the Skype network after the 1st of September 2018, they need to enhance Skype 8's functionality to get at least some of Skype 7's functionality to it. One of those missing and crucial for the visually impaired users functions are the global hotkeys for answering and rejecting a call, and similar ones. |They should be restored to Skype 8 as they are in Skype 7. Otherwise, answering or rejecting a call for visually impaired keyboard users is practically a nightmare at the moment. Since Microsoft will prevent Skype 7 from accessing the Skype network after the 1st of September 2018, they
I don't understand why this issue STILL has not been taken care of. Extremely disappointing, to not be able to do something as simple as answer a Skype call with a simple keyboard command.
This is not just something that would be nice to have. For a blind person, it's essential -- as several have already stated in this thread. I wish someone would at least explain why on earth this has not been resolved long ago.
In the most recent April 2019 update of JAWS and Fusion 2019 software, users who are willing to use the Desktop version of Skype can now answer and disconnect from calls without having focus on the Skype application. Here is the help info from JAWS on the topic:
Easy Access to Answer or Disconnect From a Skype Call Using the Desktop Application Version 8.42 or Higher
In Skype for Desktop 8.42 and later, JAWS or Fusion now provides keystrokes for answering or disconnecting a call from any application as well as moving focus into the Skype main window. Note that these keystrokes are only available in the Skype for Desktop application. They will not work in the Skype for Windows 10 universal app from the Microsoft store or the Skype for Business app.
To answer an incoming call, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, y followed by UP ARROW. To disconnect from a call, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, y followed by DOWN ARROW. To move focus directly into the Skype window, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, Y followed by S.
bummer this great functionality has been removed in this ****** new skype
I don't understand why the answering call feature still does not have a hotkey! Surely you have gotten many complaints about this, and it is an issue that many people would appreciate, but that is essential for the blind. Why is such basic functionality still not being addressed?

Please re-introduce custom hotkeys. I specifically miss the option to use a custom hotkey to toggle visibility of the main window (Windows 10), so I won't have to find Skype in systray - or anywhere else - just to open the app.
Yes skype 8 is a monumental failure as a program, as well as in accessibility.
This if there is any doubt should open every one's eyes about Microsoft's real commitment to accessibility.
If Microsoft has a total commitment this version should still be in beta.
You can't even focus the edit field to compose a message with the baked in screen reader.
Sad lip service and no deep commitment.
I was forced to upgrade to version 8 today or not use Skype. Ugh. Why do they keep changing things (not only in Skype but also Office)? It worked fine before. It's now worse. Stop messing with it. I used to use the hotkey to bring Skype to/from the taskbar. Now there's not even a default option and I can't customize my hotkeys.
I agree with Rose Rodent, it is amazing that you now cannot use keyboard shortcuts to call someone in your contacts list. Why has Microsoft omitted this basic option?
Rose Rodent commented
I agree, I held off the update because of accessibility concerns, was assured by Microsoft that once it was in full swing accessibility would be back. There is a list of shortcuts but it's missing some fairly key ones like how to select WHO you want to call!! There's no point having a shortcut for starting a call if I can only call the first alphabetical person in the contacts list. This is SHAMEFUL
Here we are in October 2018 with Skype 7.4 now set to stop working on 1 November and still no news of global keys to answer, end or reject calls. Why have these things STILL not been addressed?

Are not very useful commands. Here are the key commands I used in the last version:
- Answer calls
- Jump to unread messages
Neither of these exist in the new version.
I also really don't like the fact Skype interrupts my system focus when I get a call. Often I am quickly writing and will hangup the call.

why is Skype support for version 7.40 being discontinued; Skype 8.0 isn't user friendly for Jaws Screen Reader Users; can this please be taken into consideration please;

I know about the Skype 8 keyboard commands and they are helpful. I'll think about suggesting some more helpful keyboard commands that are missing now, after some brainstorming with my friends.
My request however is about global hotkeys/keyboard commands for answering and rejecting Skype calls, which will work no matter which application is in focus.
