  1. Add the ability for Narrator to automatically read the contents of dialogue boxes and notifications from Action Center.

When a dialogue box opens, Narrator only reads the first control that gains focus. While it's possible to use the Narrator cursor to read the text in the dialogue, I would like an option to specify whether Narrator automatically reads the contents of these dialogues when they appear. Along the same lines, I'd also like to see automatic reading of notifications when they are received. Currently, I hear a little **** sound when something new pops up. I have to go into the action center and manually view the alert. It would be nice to be told what the notification…

        Hello,

Thank you for contacting us via the User Voice forum. This is something that we’ve already been made aware of as a desired feature. Therefore, I’m in communication with the product managers to see when this may be implemented. Once I have clear information on this, I’ll post a follow up comment on this topic.

Again, thank you for contacting the Microsoft Disability Help Desk.

      • Move focus from the message list to the message body after selecting a message within Outlook for Android

Currently when selecting a message from the Focused Inbox within Outlook for Android version 2.1.116, focus remains on the item in the list when using the app with the BrailleNote Touch. While the Touch does have a touchscreen and supports gestures, the primary navigation paradigm with the Touch is linearly using keyboard commands. When a message is activated from the list, focus should move to the message body. Currently users have to scroll/swipe past all of the messages in the list in order to locate the contents of the message they opened.

          Hello,

Thank you for contacting us about the issue you’re having. Can you tell us is if you’ve been able to change the focus to the message body without the BrailleNote Touch?

Thank you for contacting us. We look forward to solving your issues and answering your questions.

          Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

        • Support captions / subtitles in MP4 & MKV files.

Windows 10 Movies & TV supports SRT files. This is nice, but it's not really enough.
I know there's no end of anime folks asking for subtitle support in MKV files, so you can ask them what formats are prevalent there.
In the MP4 container, there's space for multiple "sbtl:tx3g" streams (aka "mov_text") to carry subtitles / captions, either to provide access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or to support multiple languages. You already support multiple audio streams, you already support subtitles in external SRT files, subtitles in alternate streams should be a small addition to…

Completely transfer "color contrast availability" from content authors to end users by developing and integrating a color detection and analysis mechanism in Edge core and provide user configuration (global, per domain, per url).

                Hello Neil,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. However, there is not enough information here to do anything with this issue. Are you asking about color contrast themes in Edge, High contrast, or color contrast ratios?

Without clearer information, there’s nothing that can be done about this at this time. therefore customer will be asked forfurther details.

                Thank you,

The Microsoft Disability ANswer Desk team.

Check Accessibility is a great feature. It should be available to users of the free Office Online apps.

                • Make Mouse Keys work in Edge

Accessibility feature Mouse Keys does not work in Edge (and UWP apps with edge html engine). There is no reaction on click (5 key on numpad) or double click (+ key on numpad) in page area. Browser toolbars are only clickable with mouse keys area of the browser.

                      Hi Richard,

Thank you for making us aware of this issue with User Voice. We just met with them in regards to helping them become more accessible to users, especially since we are using them as one of our Microsoft venders. Thus we will forward this on to them for remediation.

Is this occurring when you are trying to sign up for a UserVoice account or getting help on another Microsoft forum? If elsewhere, can you tell us specifically?

If there is anything else that we can be of service for, please let us know.

                      Sincerely,

                      The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk.

Currently, Narrator doesn't take you back to where you were on a webpage when going back to the previous page. For example, follow a link in this forum, then go back. Focus should return to the link you were on before going to the new page.

                          • Add an autoscroll or autopan feature for braille displays.

When braille support is introduced into Narrator, I would like to have an automatic scrolling or panning mode. This would make it easier to read long passages of content without having to constantly press the scroll button on the display to scroll to the next line of braille. This feature could be further enhanced by customizable time intervals for the display to scroll. For example, have the display scroll after 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, etc. This would let the user customize how quickly the refreshes occur.

                                • Focusable elements should fire focus event / receive :focus styling when they receive Narrator/accessibility focus

This issue relates to a current inconsistency among different AT, particularly evident on touchscreen devices. See https://patrickhlauke.github.io/touch/tests/results/#mobile-tablet-touchscreen-assistive-technology-events / https://twitter.com/patrick_h_lauke/status/788496138966106112

In iOS/VoiceOver/Safari, when a focusable element (link, button...but some special casing seems to happen for text entry fields and similar) receives VO focus, the JavaScript focus event is fired and CSS :focus styles apply. In most other OS/AT/browser combinations, this is currently not the case - accessibility focus does not trigger focus() / :focus.

This has been brought up in the past with Mozilla with regards to Android/TalkBack/Firefox (xref https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1000082) and just now with Google for Android/TalkBack/Chrome (xref https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=657157)

                                  • Remove the compromise between keyboard and controler on XBox with Narrator

I recently purchased an Xbox console. Here are my thoughts on the experiences so far and I think an underlying theme of where accessibility breaks and needs to improve. I am really passionate about making this a good console for users, so opening dialog up about this is critical. That's why I was super excited when I purchased my console a few weeks ago, a moment where I was confident that at least I'm getting some out-of-box accessibility solutions and a company dedicated to their mission.

First, the biggest issue with Narrator, as it stands, is this controller-keyboard compromise I…

                                    • Make shapes accessible to keyboard users in Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc

Currently, in Office programs, when shapes are added to a document:

Word: alt+n, sh, then choose a shape.
                                      Excel: alt+n, zi,sh, then choose a shape.

The shapes themselves are identified, which is great, but as soon as you choose one, you need to use the mouse to insert it.

Many screen readers provide a way of partly manipulating the mouse (eg press numpad slash to left click with NVDA), it is impossible to accurately position the item and resize it. Please include the ability to use the keyboard to accomplish this.

A reputable company Microsoft, I apologize in advance for not being an exact translation (if he is), so I really do not know much English. I have just a few moments ago I saw your creation HoloLens, and I was deeply impressed by this device. And I would like to tell you about a text concept of absolute immersion in virtual reality devices.
It is a capsule full immersion, in which a person falls into a trance or dream, using neural helmet that reads brain signals and converts to a digital signal, creating a virtual reality of total immersion, in…
