    Hello,

We would be more than happy to assist you. However, we need more specifics as far as what operatiing system you are using, application, and accessibility tool, as well as the scenario that the proble is occurring. With that information, we can better assist you.

    Thank you,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

  2. In the Word 2016 spell checker, could we please use the new hotkeys, such as Spacebar with C or Spacebar with I while focussed in the list o

It would be great to be able to use the new hotkeys such as SpaceBar with C or Spacebar with I while still focussed in the list of suggestions. Having to tab away from the list to use these hotkeys is a real productivity killer, because, often the correct suggestion is third or fourth in the list, so we need to be able to use those hotkeys while focussed in the list of suggestions. Thanks.

Check Accessibility is a great feature. It should be available to users of the free Office Online apps.

    Hello Hari Dhoundiyal ,

Thank you for contacting the Disability Answer Desk about your concern with Narrator. Can you give us some more detail as to when it does not alternate in between screen and editing mode? This would help us improve the software to make it user friendly.

    Thank you for contacting us.

    Sincerely,

    The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk.

  5. Make the Go To command work better with Voiceover

This works with some options (for example, going to a bookmark in a Word file), but not others. For example, if I am on page one of a Word file, and ask to Go To page 2, then close the dialogue by pressing Escape, the insertion point remains on page one.

  6. Make Mouse Keys work in Edge

Accessibility feature Mouse Keys does not work in Edge (and UWP apps with edge html engine). There is no reaction on click (5 key on numpad) or double click (+ key on numpad) in page area. Browser toolbars are only clickable with mouse keys area of the browser.

  7. Support captions / subtitles in MP4 & MKV files.

Windows 10 Movies & TV supports SRT files. This is nice, but it's not really enough.
I know there's no end of anime folks asking for subtitle support in MKV files, so you can ask them what formats are prevalent there.
In the MP4 container, there's space for multiple "sbtl:tx3g" streams (aka "mov_text") to carry subtitles / captions, either to provide access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or to support multiple languages. You already support multiple audio streams, you already support subtitles in external SRT files, subtitles in alternate streams should be a small addition to…

    Hello Mo,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question as we are focused on making our products more accessible to the disabled community.

We do have oquestion: Are you using LibLouis Braille Library for Braille support in the development of your drivers?

    Thank you,

  9. Azure portal accessibility issues

The following problems in relation to Azure Portal accessibility have been encountered when using this UI with Jaws for windows 18 and NVDA 2016. Both Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome were also tested.

    1. the link to add subnets is not properly labeled.

    2. It is no longer possible to select the location.

    3. When pressinbg E, instead of looking for the last edit field Jaws telling me I'm not in a table.

    4. Drop downs are not accessible. The lookup window isn't accessible.

    5. Adding a site to site connection on the virtual network gateway. Unable to select a local network gateway. The blade…

  10. Improve magnification - make it more Apple like

Would be great to have similar magnifying features like there are in mac os x:
    - GPU enhanced magnification (not only in full screen mode) to make everything more smooth.
    - Make desktop scrollable rather than reducing the space in "docked mode".
    - Add an option to center the mouse in the zoom area (full screen mode).
    - Add a shortcut to quickly enable/disable zoom without having to close magnify.exe.
    - Dual monitor support:
    - desktop expansion
    - clone (zoomed)
    - clone (1x - with no zoom)

    Hi Artur,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us with your specific suggestions. At this time, I’m in contact with the Project Managers to get an idea of what’s been implemented and what is planned. Once I have concrete answers, I’ll get back to you.

    Thanks again for your input.

    Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

  11. Provide day of week information when navigating the calendar in Outlook 2016.

When navigating the calendar in Outlook 2016 recent builds, the screen reader will announce the dates, but not the actual day of the week. JAWS used to do this before they switched to providing the information directly from outlook.

    Hi Jason,

Thank you for contacting us at the Disability Answer Desk. In order to serve you better, can you tell us what version of Outlook you’re using such as Mac or Windows 32 or 64-bit, and what version of Jaws or other screen reader that you are using? That will allow us to get this issue to the appropriate product manager to get this resolved for you.

Again, thank you for contacting us; and we will do our best to resolve this for you.

    Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

  12. Add an Outlook profile flag for users who need accessible e-mails

Allow users to self identify via their Outlook/Exchange profile that they need accessible e-mail sent to them.
This would notify senders when the receiver has flagged that they need to receive e-mail in an accessible format and would prompt the sender to run the accessibility checker on their message and attachments before sending the message to the receiver who self identified via their profile.

    Hi Cory,

This is an interesting suggestion in that it does make sense to alert the recipient of the fact that a disabled person is emailing them and needs some compensation to see a replied email. The tricky thing is that not all users use Microsoft products for email correspondence. Thus iin order to make this universal, there may have to be something implemented into the email protocols such as IMAP, SMTP or POP protocols.

However, this will be forwarded to the appropriate project manager to get additional feedback on this suggestion.

Thank you for reaching out to us; and if you have any further issues or suggestions related to accessibility, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk Team.

  13. Add options to customize the Narrator views.

When using capslock up and down arrows, there are some items in the list that I don't use. It would be helpful if there was a settings screen with a list of all the elements that could be toggled on or off. This would declutter the list and make it easier to use by removing rarely used commands. I'd personally use this to remove such things as landmarks as I never use that navigation setting.

    Hello Chris,

Thank you for reaching out to us at the Disability ANswer Desk on the User Voice Forum. This is an interesting feature request and makes a lot of sense considering that verbosity settings are found on comparable products. I will contact the product manager for Narrator and follow up with him to see if this is something that is planned for a future release. Once I have an answer back, I’ll follow up with an update with regards to your suggestion.

Thank you again for contacting us about this.

    Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

  14. Allow users to DISABLE animations in SharePoint OnPrem 2016 HoverCards

I find ALL on-screen animation makes me physically nauseous, so turning ALL animation off is extremely important to me.
Erin Williams in CELA tells me that it is not currently possible to switch off the animation in HoverCards in SharePoint OnPrem 2016: which makes the product unusable for me. Please make disabling animation in SharePoint a GLOBAL and USER SELECTABLE (i.e. not IT department) option.
And: can Microsoft PLEASE STOP animating everything in every app "because we can?" Edge is now unusable because of that, also large portions of Windows10. Animation, so-called "smooth" scrolling, and similar abominations are NOT "cool"…

  15. Make shapes accessible to keyboard users in Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc

Currently, in Office programs, when shapes are added to a document:

Word: alt+n, sh, then choose a shape.
    Excel: alt+n, zi,sh, then choose a shape.

The shapes themselves are identified, which is great, but as soon as you choose one, you need to use the mouse to insert it.

Many screen readers provide a way of partly manipulating the mouse (eg press numpad slash to left click with NVDA), it is impossible to accurately position the item and resize it. Please include the ability to use the keyboard to accomplish this.

  16. Move focus from the message list to the message body after selecting a message within Outlook for Android

Currently when selecting a message from the Focused Inbox within Outlook for Android version 2.1.116, focus remains on the item in the list when using the app with the BrailleNote Touch. While the Touch does have a touchscreen and supports gestures, the primary navigation paradigm with the Touch is linearly using keyboard commands. When a message is activated from the list, focus should move to the message body. Currently users have to scroll/swipe past all of the messages in the list in order to locate the contents of the message they opened.

    Hi Neil,

Thank you for reaching out to us about your suggestion. In order to help you out further, what operating system and application are you wanting to use the math OCR capability with? Is this to be used with any adaptive technologies like Narrator, Jaws, dolphin, etc.? This would help me do some additional research for you and get this suggestion in front of the right engineering team.

Again, thank you for contacting us; and if we can be of help in the future, please don’t hesitate to post again.

    Sincerely,

The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk team.

  20. Make sure developers of different MS products are on the same accessibility page.

Accessibility Checker and Captioning plug-in for PowerPoint? Good job. Thumbs up.

Inability to convert a captioned PowerPoint to an accessible Office Mix? Inexcusable.

MAKE IT EASY FOR END USERS TO CREATE ACCESSIBLE CONTENT.
